Air Travel Restarts at Scotland's Busiest Airport Following Significant Control Tower IT Issue

A technical fault at Edinburgh's air traffic control meant no planes could arrive or depart from the airport.

Passenger services have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport after a significant air traffic control outage halted all operations.

All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped due to an systems problem that was reported at approximately 08:30.

Some passengers were left waiting in jets at the stand while the issue persisted.

Flights Resume with Residual Impact

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "patience and understanding".

However, considerable delays are expected to affect schedules. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with numerous other services experiencing delays.

An airport representative had initially projected that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.

"Passengers are advised to contact their airlines for the current status on their individual travel plans," officials reiterated.

Root of the Disruption

Officials linked the operational halt to an technical fault with its ATC service provider.

Flyers continue to be advised to verify the schedule of their journey before traveling to the hub as knock-on effects are worked through.
