British tennis star Emma Raducanu ends the current season and plans to retain coach into the 2026 season.
Raducanu reached the third round in three Grand Slam tournaments major tournaments this year.
Emma Raducanu from Great Britain has pulled out of her final two events this season as a result of a health issue that has affected her over the past 10 days.
The 22-year-old was due to play in events in Asia but chose to travel back to rest and recuperate prior to beginning her preparations for 2026.
Those preparations will involve her coach Francisco Roig, as both individuals have agreed to work together for the upcoming season.
She had her blood pressure taken in her opening round against Ann Li in Wuhan last week and stopped playing when trailing 6-1 4-1 on a very muggy occasion.
She again required a visit from the doctor at the Ningbo Open this week, where she fell in a three-set match to local wildcard Zhu Lin in the opening round.
Raducanu was also moving far from freely in the final set versus Zhu owing to back discomfort that has affected her during parts of the season.
Such performances meant an encouraging season, in which Raducanu rose into the international top 30 after more than three years in more than three years, ended with three successive defeats.
The athlete was close to victory with three match points prior to falling to Pegula in the third round in Beijing last month.
Raducanu won twenty-eight matches this year and reached the semi-finals in Washington, but the highlight of her season was at the Miami event in March.
Ranked first in Britain advanced to the quarters of this WTA 1000 tournament, defeating eighth seed Emma Navarro on the way prior to a loss in three sets to fourth-ranked Pegula.
She was coached by Mark Petchey as coach from Miami until Wimbledon, with Francisco Roig stepping in ahead of the US Open.
The initial agreement with the former trainer of Nadal was through the season's conclusion but they will keep working together, with planned training sessions for the end of the year.
She mentioned that a three-day test period with Roig post-Wimbledon was like a "secret mission" as the meeting was kept under wraps.
She nearly succeeded to overcoming Sabalenka, the world number one at the first competition with Roig in Cincinnati in August.
Roig was also with Raducanu in the New York tournament, where she advanced to round three prior to losing to Elena Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon winner.
