Nintendo Switch 2 Gets First Major System Upgrade Loaded with Handy Features

The Nintendo Switch 2 has received its first major system upgrade, update 21.0.0, and although it lacks anything completely game-changing, there are numerous quality of life enhancements to be enthused over.

Updated Title Badges Offer Easy Recognition

A key standout features features fresh symbols that appear on top of a physical title, identifying whether that software is an original Nintendo Switch release, updated model, or online copy.

This feature is well received by fans, with several praising it as a "thoughtful addition" that supports make the UI feel more alive.

Enhanced Friend Search and Voice Chat Functions

While finding gamers to send a friend request, the Locate Gamers You've Met setting under Connect with Others now covers users you've chatted with in your friends’ GameChat rooms.

Concerning voice communication, various upgrades were added:

  • The game will not enter sleep mode on its own when using chat.
  • An option to turn off “Chat Audio Panning” was included.
  • Communication remains active if the system switches from TV mode to on-the-go or stand mode, even when this change results in the connection changing from a cable setup to a untethered one.

Efficient Downloads and Gamepad Sound Settings

While installing several games concurrently, you now have the option to halt every install with one click.

For premium controller players, a new low-latency audio mode has been included, allowing you to select between “Stable” or “Low Latency” settings.

Faster Audio will reduce audio latency when compared to “Stable” but could be more susceptible to problems in some untethered setups.

Downloadable Software Information Download Upgrade

A further notable change allows you to download information for a downloadable software even if the “Use Online License” setting is disabled.

This option is found in the Settings of a digital title when accessed via Downloadable Content from the HOME Menu.

Further System Improvements

Apart from these headline changes, the update offers various additional enhancements:

  • Ease of access improvements: Audio narration will speak predictive conversion letters on the Japan layout, and the voice tempo top speed is now higher from three hundred percent to 400%.
  • Display settings: Enhanced contrast was renamed to “System Screen’s HDR Output,” and image fitting is now more straightforward to set up.
  • Alerts improvements: The option "Platinum Point Notification” is now called to "Nintendo Switch Online Notification."
  • System options: Battery handling features “Stop Charging Around 80-90%” in place of the previous “Stop Charging Around 90%” feature.
  • Locale options: Thailand's language and Poland's language are now included to the selection of supported languages, but they can only be usable in games that include the specific tongue.
  • Overall stability upgrades to boost the player's interaction.

The software patch signifies a strong advancement for the Switch 2 console, bringing a range of practical enhancements that refine the complete user experience.
