Patriots Equal Longest Winning Streak Since Tom Brady Era with Win Against New York Jets
Rookie Henderson has tallied five scores during the current campaign
New England matched their top unbeaten stretch from the Brady era as they beat division opponents the New York Jets by 13 points in the NFL
First-year standout Henderson was the standout with three touchdowns as the New England squad claimed an eight-game winning streak for the first time since legendary quarterback Brady's final season with the team in 2019
Signal-caller Drake Maye passed for 281 yards and a TD, completing 25 of 34 passes
The win increases the Patriots advantage at the summit of the AFC East as they improved to nine wins and two defeats, with the Jets bottom after slipping to two wins and eight losses
The visitors had taken the lead at their home field with QB Fields running in a short rushing score to conclude the Jets' first possession
But the home team answered in the second quarter as Henderson ran in two seven-yard TDs before the ball carrier hauled in a throw from Maye at the back of the endzone in the middle of the third quarter to extend the lead to 21 to 7
"It was a big time for him delivering, and it's been excellent for him to keep earning playing time," the quarterback said of the rookie. "He aims to be outstanding."
Fields found John Metchie in the latter part of the third period to reduce the lead for the visitors but Borregales kicked a pair of field goals in the final period as the home side sealed the victory
