Supporters Call for Custody of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of the actress are urging that a person who leaped a barricade and touched the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be detained or deported from Singapore.
A circulating clip reveals the Australian man pushing past camera operators and charging at Grande while the actors proceeded down a yellow carpet flanked by fans.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being detained", though court documents showed that he was due to attend court on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
History of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed includes clips of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers event in the area last year.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is clearly a legal violation," wrote an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over Grande's Well-being
Many fans blamed Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at the conclusion of her spring 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and wounding many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" wrote a further response on Instagram.
Several fans also criticised event staff at the gathering for not being vigilant enough; while some called for social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Premiere Information
In clips circulating online, Grande looked shocked when she was approached by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the remaining proceedings carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of fans had congregated in a mass of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional debut in a Singapore venue, including some who had stood in line for as long as many hours before it commenced.
The motion picture, to be launched on 21 November, is the follow-up of a two-part adaptation of the popular Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which focuses on the surprising relationship between two distinct characters.
The production itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a rosé sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of the previous year in the UK, and scored a dozen Academy Award nods, earning a pair for outstanding attire and production design.
