The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh season, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-episode series written by the show's creator starts production in Belfast in the coming months, according to the network.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The last season concluded in recent years with a finale that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread for some time, but official word only came this week.
New Challenges for The Team
The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain working to combat corruption within the law enforcement.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a offender.
However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the background, the teaser hinted.
In a statement, the creator commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had so many fans watch the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor described being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the program's popularity but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.
Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."
"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."
Series Legacy
The drama launched in the early 2010s and became a highly successful television series of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Lennie James.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will premiere.
The conclusion of series six brought the long-running storyline about the search for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a conclusion, and producers indicated at the moment there were no plans for additional seasons.
However, the network announced on Tuesday that a seventh series is now being produced.
