The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Trailer Debuts, Introducing Rosalina and Bowser Jr. Voices
Nintendo and Illumination released the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie midweek. It was showcased in a Nintendo-focused broadcast that highlighted the soon-to-release cartoon movie.
Following up on the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will send Mario to the outer limits of the cosmos. Along the way, he discovers a fresh princess character and a powerful new opponent in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.
An Interstellar Journey Drawing from Iconic Releases
In the vein of the Wii console classics that serve as its inspiration, Mario will venture away from the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. During his grand adventure, he will encounter once more some recognizable characters, such as the Luma, a popular character from the previous film.
But it appears Mario and his sibling Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who reportedly utilizes powers related to metal. Interestingly, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not only concentrated on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also features references to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Celebrity Voice Actors Returns and Expands
The feature will welcome back of the original voice cast, featuring Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will portray Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to represent Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by the CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri.
A Big Year for Mario
The new Mario movie is planned to debut near the four-decade milestone of the initial Super Mario Bros. release. Apart from the cinematic release, 2026 is shaping up to be a significant year for Mario and his companions.
The company has a set of three fresh titles publicly declared for 2026, such as Mario Tennis Fever, a version for Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a new Yoshi platformer titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Premiere Date Announced
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is officially set to be released on April 3, 2026.
